Navidad Nuestra
Navidad Nuestra is a program of Christmas and Advent choral music from Latin America, pairing Baroque works from the Colonial period with Ariel Ramírez 20th century masterwork Navidad Nuestra. In addition to our singers, this program features an early music instrumental ensemble and a wide variety of traditional Andean instruments.

Serenata Navideña Community Sing
Join us for Serenata Navideña, our winter Community Sing! This free, family-friendly event will feature crafts for children, a group singing event with Spanish Christmas carols led by Heritage Choir, and end with tamales, pan dulce, and hot chocolate.

Tenor Matthew Valverde and pianist Ahmed Anzaldúa will present a recital of Latin-American art songs by Carlos Guastavino, Manuel M. Ponce, Jaime León, and Mari Esabel Valverde in the sanctuary following mass.

“Oceana” is a reinvention of the Bach cantata form for a modern age by the celebrated Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov. It is a prophetic work, setting texts by Pablo Neruda where “crashing waves have disappeared, the seas and the songs of travelers have passed away.”

Border CrosSing continues its holiday tradition of performing Navidad Nuestra by Argentine composer Ariel Ramírez, first performed by the ensemble in 2017 alongside a bilingual version of Handel’s Messiah. This year’s program pairs Navidad Nuestra with Baroque villancicos from Mexico, Bolivia, and Peru, which will be performed in Spanish and the Indigenous language Nahuatl.
